I'm sure most, if not everyone, has seen this speech or heard about it. It was big news on NPR on my drive to work this week and I finally got a chance to watch it last night.
I wasn't sure who I was supporting this year. Honestly, Obama-Clinton-McCain would all be such an upgrade that I can barely even find the urge to support anyone. It cannot get worse, only better. So I wasn't even going to choose someone to support. I always liked John Edwards and would love to have a President who championed the poor; but alas...
The most poignant comment I've heard about Obama's speech delving into race issues that still plague America was a caller on Morning Edition on NPR. She simply said:
"I'm voting for him because I've never seen a Candidate talk to America like we're intelligent."
It's hard to argue with that.
Be careful of those in sheep's clothing. Our cousin Reverent Wright's agenda and that of Obama are suspect. As Bill Cosby says, quit blaming white folks for our problems, the problems are with black families. Hillaryis44.com has a list of misstatements and what appears to be flat lies on the subject. Hillary and Bill are suspect as well. The poor will always be with us, our Nation may not. From the dusty plains of West Texas, Herb

i like obama too.
and i hope people don't genuinely believe poverty is not an issue because "the poor will always be with us". that breaks my heart. when one worries about the nation before those who live IN the nation, there's a problem. don't get me wrong, i love america, but i love AMERICANS much more than i love the broad concept of america. and i don't want a president who is perfect. they're all "suspect".
just my two cents.
