One of the things I most regret about my first year here is that I stayed in my room too much last Autumn. I've decided that I like the word "autumn" more than "fall". I doubt I'm using it correctly, but I'm sticking with it. Anyway, back to the point. Last year, I noticed the fall colors and I thought they were nice, but I didn't have a reason to be out and really enjoying it. This area, the Hudson Valley, is absolutely gorgeous. It's border-line forest with beautiful rolling hills and meadows. The colors are amazing, though it's been a little too warm for them to be really popping out yet, I'm told. Last year, I was a little homesick, a little pissy about my dorm situation and just a little out of it.
This year, under the guise of "taking pictures", I've already spent more time outside than I did all of last year. I've hiked and biked around the area and I hope to do more.
I was watching 60 minutes the other day, and the old man on there said he hates the word autumn because he thinks it sounds pretentious.
Nina was telling me about an article she read out of Montpelier, VT where they said this was the worst year to see color; there were so many factors that could be the cause, but they didn't know what it was xactly. So sad.
