Another day, another embarrassment for the United States of America. President Bush's last day in office will be a win for America. He's brought nothing but shame and corruption to the Office of the President. Treason is no longer a crime.
My experience, as an Attorney, gives me a bit of incite into the perils of memory. As a prior trial attorney and handling very heavy dockets, I had fits of lapses of memory. Around trial docket times, I would be negotiating with a number of attorneys by phone, mail, and fax. Too many things pending lead me to require that all agreements be reduced to writing, as I could not remember all of the contingent trial agreements that we had agreed on, hence I was
accused of faulty memory (lying to the Court on an agreement among the parties) concerning an issue. To this day, I do not have the faintest recollection of the date, time, and agreement that was brought before the Court. The Judge dismissed the accusations by the other party's attorney as there was no written record of the agreement. So, I have been there. Trying to field 20-30 voice mails, 100 emails, and several faxes a day does befuddle or daze one. An Attorney's day is endless 10 hour days at least six days a week.Did Mr. Libby lie, I do not know, but a jury found it so. The inquiry of the prosecutor was to find who leaked Ms. Plame's CIA identity. The prosecutor from approximately day one and before millions of dollars were spent on the investigation knew that the leaker was Richard Armitage. Did he prosecute Mr. Armitage, no as it was well known in Washington circles that Ms. Plame was a CIA agent and the conviction would not have stuck so to speak. The prosecutor continued to interview those close to the White House with the intent to embarrass the White House and/or to justify this waste of government funds, i.e., justify his expenditures. Armitage was a high State Dept official so I assume it was conveyed to the President that he was the leaker. There was nothing to be gained by Libby to lie to the Grand Jury about a known fact, which leads me to believe that his testimony about the time of the leak to Tim Russer was to the best of his knowledge and belief.
There is no justification to impeach the President, he has the power to commute and/or pardon as being President. Certainly, President Clinton did his fair share of it.
Absent a complete pardon, Libby's Attorney's license is lost and his reputation will never be restored. As the good book says, it is better to die with a good name than anything else. Libby's name is mud.
