I picked up a Samsung Upstage at Best Buy last night. While the whole experience has been a nightmare, I can definitely not recommend this phone. I'm by no means a power-user, but when the battery runs dry after 3/4 of a day's work, you've got problems.
I should have known when the salesman registered me on the Sprint network with a box with no phone. Let me tell you, it's a lot easier to get your number ported to a display phone than you'd think. We called Sprint, they stopped the number port from Cingular, but couldn't get it fixed right away. So I'm on a temporary phone number; which I'm thankful for considering how many times they told me that my number was irrecoverable. It's sad that your level of success if dependent on numerous calls just trying to find someone willing to help. It was a classic battle of Sprint saying "we never got your number from Cingular, and Cingular saying we don't know what the hell is going on, but the number is at Sprint and there isn't shit we can do about it."
But it'll all be worth it because I've gotten a very-much needed new phone (i'm going to get the samsung m610 when i return the Upstage) and shaved about 1/2 off my regular cellphone bill.
Sprint users: you can get 300 free text messages a month for one year by showing your college id in a retail store.
also, check out sprint.com/sero for killer service plans. you need a sprint.com email address, but the system is a joke. any name.name@sprint.com works.

Ooh, so you switched from Evil Cingular? I so want to do that. Tell me how it goes. I hate Cingular so much; it borders on unhealthiness.
I really, really hate them.

i don't think it's a good vs evil battle. i can give definite bonus points to Cingular for having American customer service personnel. it was beautiful to be understood and understand them. of all my service calls yesterday, my Cingular calls were painless and my Sprint were painful...
but that's what i've always heard. Sprint has some of the worst customer care in the world..

Dude - did you stop reading Engadget/Gizmodo? Both of them panned that thing like a month ago. Lately I'm rockin' the Moto RIZR. It's kinda high school, but it's built like a tank and I think the battery runs off trilithium crystals or something.

Oh yeah - and Elsie's right. Cingular is evil. They are a Bell, and since Bell has the GOP bought and paid for, they are per se evil. I'm surprised George doesn't wear little Cingular and SBC patches on his jacket like a NASCAR driver.

well cnet and a few others rated it semi-highly. said it had issues, but that overall it's alright.
i wanted something that was pretty cool and different, but i think i'm going back to the samsung m610. Lee likes his...

regan, you realize that you will not be able to get an iPhone since you are switching from cingular, right?
i want to switch TO cingular for that reason alone.

while i love the idea of the iPhone and I'm sure it will be nice, I think touchscreens are possibly the dumbest, most aggravating things i've ever used.
i just can't see using a touchscreen for everything will be very nimble...
