Pizza Patron, a Dallas-based pizzeria, has been under fire lately for accepting pesos. How bigoted and ignorant can America be? Well, enough to hate on a company that from all outward-looking signs are very legit. It's sad when things like this blow up in the news, because it just underscores that many Americans haven't left bigotry and ignorance back in the past where it belongs.
This isn't an immigration debate and it's not about nationalism. It's about Americans feeling they are superior than these poor little brown people who live in huts and will clean our rooms for cheap. They don't speak our language! They can't read!
Come on. This is just veiled racism and if you ask me, I'll tell you to your face. The United States did not have a national language until a dumb Republican jammed it through Congress attached to an omnibus bill. It was never debated or thought through because it need not be. The United States outwardly professes to love it's diversity while many live in a homophobic, racism filled, ignorant, world-hating life.
My advice? Try visiting another country and seeing that life is not all about McDonald's, the NFL, and MTV. There's a lot of beauty out there and there's a lot of beauty in Mexican American's. Pizza Patron shows you that...
Our values are well-defined in our mission statement, “Service to community. Commitment to value.” These few words represent everything Pizza Patrón is about. We want to provide great food at an exceptional value to every neighborhood we can. Our stores are clean, bright and cheerful. They are an asset to the neighborhood. We conduct business in an honest and professional way. Our store managers live in the very same area as the Pizza Patrón store they work in. We make great food and sell it at the lowest possible price.
mmmm...pizza patron. that made me hungry. too bad they don't open for another FOUR HOURS. ehuh. [and it's true, their pizza is super cheap and totally amazing.]

But, who is looking out for the yellow people - not Speaker Pelosi. The recent passage of the minimum wage increase bill omitted American Samoa. Something fishy going on. Alas, Starkist (headquatered in the Speaker's District) and Chicken of the Sea with headquarters in California have fish canning operations on Samoa. Restored my faith in the Dems and Congress, business as usual.

My first impression was that Samoan law wasn't set by the US Congress, so I looked deeper.
From the Department of Labor's website:
"The minimum wage rates for American Samoa are set by a special industry committee (29 U.S.C. 205, 29 C.F.R. Part 511) appointed by the U.S. Department of Labor, as required by the Act. The rates are set for particular industries, not for an employee's particular occupation. The rates are minimum rates (29 U.S.C. 206(a)(3)); an employer may choose to pay an employee at a rate higher than the rate(s) for its industry."So I guess it's not Nancy Pelosi's fault that federal law already dictated how their wage was set...

Regan wants to ignore the obvious.....he who has the gold rules. Here, just plain corporate greed with the cooperation of the Dems, the little guy in Samoa is treated like a third world person. Any act of Congress would override the Dept of Labor rules. The Act specifically excluded Samoa from operation of the minimum wage increase. The Dems want to act like they have the high ground on ethics and being for the little guy.......but, they are no better than the Republicans and this minimum wage bill showed their true colors.........nothing ever changes in Washington.
