July 27, 2006 10:15 AM: bountiful to barrenNews broke on Tuesday that a Lubbock family had lost it's second son to war. A man went from being the proud father of two, to the father of none over the past years. It's hard to imagine how dramatically life-changing that is and how you could ever recover. We've marginalized this war from the beginning. We were given so many reasons that turned out to be lies, so many excuses that have dumbed it down into a very costly war that will have no victory. We'll never get out...
July 25, 2006 01:50 PM: ds liteWhen your girl says she wants to buy a Nintendo DS lite, be happy. When she offers to buy you one too so that you don't feel left out, be even happier. Whitney bought us both some new DS Lite's today and a couple of games. So far, it's been a hit. The hardware is excellent and the games are of typical nintendo awesomeness. I've been playing (i don't know if that's the right word) with Brain Age, the game that apparently helps improve your memory. It's been great...
July 20, 2006 04:30 PM: american madeToday, I watched the most impressive, EPIC display of guts I've ever seen. Floyd Landis was leading the race yesterday and cracked, losing eight minutes on the rest of the field. Instead of just giving up, Landis rode out today and took SEVEN plus minutes back today. I would have bet you a million dollars that it wasn't possible......
July 19, 2006 11:16 PM: only leader of the religious rightAlso today, we saw President Bush use his first veto of his Presidency on HR 810. In many ways, I believe this issue is indicative of the President's platform; catering only, no matter how egregiously wrong he is, to the religious and extreme right. I've yet to really find anyone who understands his logic on this issue, or even agrees with the idea he panders to the right. In my view, I don't consider a fertilized egg a child. I simply cannot fathom how the President can consider the...
July 19, 2006 10:40 PM: both are wrong, both are rightOneof my, if not my absolute, favorite bands sends out a weekly email. Typically, it just gives out an update on the band and where they're heading out this weekend. Occasionally, as they did today, they drop a gem of social commentary. (Dr.) Buddy Huffman (seriously, a microbiologist), lead singer of Macon Greyson, gives this account as to how the current situation in Israel makes him feel. How are we? We are all super, thanks for asking. I haven't editorialized much recently, but I have been watching a lot of...
July 13, 2006 03:04 PM: israel v the worldI admit, I had been a normal American this week: dumb to international news. Also, the lack of weblogs covering the events in Israel and Lebanon had limited my exposure to what's going on. I suggest everyone pick up the New York Times or CNN to see what's going on. Israel spent several weeks attacking Palestine in response to a soldiers' kidnapping. Now, they're blaming Lebanon for rocket attacks and kidnappings and have attacked targets in Beirut. I read one account that said that Israel is posturing to attack...
July 11, 2006 02:52 PM: home, sweet homeDefinitely a sight for sore eyes... After 31 hours or so in the car over three hellacious days, I made it back to Lubbock. Seeing Whitney has been absolutely wonderful and it reminds me how good I've got it. I've tried to rewrite my post about passions and how lovely it is to find yours and follow it. But I've not been able to explain it as eloquently as I did the first time. So I'm not even going to try, and I'm going to work on loving Whitney...
July 5, 2006 06:15 PM:this is a placeholder for a post about passions and my thoughts about being in new york. when i was about to post, i accidentally closed the window and lost everything. hopefully, i'll stop being frustrated and be able to articulate my thoughts again. grrrrr....
July 4, 2006 12:48 PM: like a childThere's still something amazing about a space shuttle lift-off. I watched today with nervous anticipation and the awe of a child. When you see a shuttle fly, you just can't help yourself from getting the big doofy smile and the bug eyes. They're just so neat......
