January 29, 2006 09:27 PM: closureIf i could best describe my grandmother's funeral, i'd have to say that it was uncomfortably wonderful. For three days, we spent our time celebrating my grandmother's life. Her faith, love, and compassion were the main points that got us through a difficult time. For me, it was the most comfortable I've ever been at a funeral. I know that sounds weird, but I was just compeltely at ease with my grandmother's passing. It's hard to be upset about someone who had 82 great years, and went out pretty easily....
January 22, 2006 04:38 PM: cyrella lynchToday, one of the sweetest, brightest, most unbelievably enjoyable women to ever have walked the earth, passed away. My grandmother was 82 years young this morning when she stopped breathing. A believer, she's surely enjoying the unbelievable joy of heaven, yet she leaves behind so many who will miss her dearly. She was one of the most special people in my life. One who encouraged, and loved with such abandon. There was always grace and mercy, never intimidation or anger. Her heart was so filled with love and kindness,...

January 15, 2006 04:51 PM: things are good now.I've been meaning to write for the past couple of weeks about feeling better and being happier. It's hard to explain though, for two reasons. The first being that I don't want to jinx myself or create unattainable expectations for myself. I've still got issues to work out and things to do better in, but for the first time in a long time, I've got some hope. The second being I don't want to give the impression that I was "just in a rut" or something that was easy to...

January 12, 2006 08:17 PM: letaIt's amazing how engrossed you can become in someone else's life when they're an incredible story teller. A tidbit from dooce's latest entry: Sometime within the first month Leta met her language goal and started using 20-30 words spontaneously, and since then she’s more than doubled her vocabulary. She’s stopped throwing explosive tantrums in the morning — what was once her most ferocious time during the day — because unlike many adults she can communicate her needs. Once her needs start expanding to “Barney,” though, I’m going to shrug my...
January 10, 2006 06:20 PM: enjoy jail. Each of the defense attorneys asked for mercy, one calling his client a churchgoing boy who made a foolish mistake. Another attorney repeatedly referred to the incident as a fight. But the judge was unmoved. "You're an embarrassment to the community and yourselves," Judge Early told the defendants. "You acted in a despicable, cowardly way." CNN...
January 9, 2006 08:16 PM: OH. MY. GOD.I thought the day would never come! It's looking like Tivo is FINALLY going to put out TivoToGo for mac! I'm betting there's an interface to make the video small-sized for the ipod with video (notice how I didn't say video ipod, because that's just plain wrong)....
January 9, 2006 01:41 PM: prickhoodWaiter Rant is a very good read. Now you might think I’m being a little hard on this woman’s hubby. Maybe the guy’s closing the biggest business deal of his life and he’s a bundle of nerves. Maybe he’s madly in love with his wife and I just caught him on a bad day – we all have ‘em. I only get to see a small slice of a person’s life when they’re in The Bistro. I’m well aware there are other slices that I don’t see. But what I...
January 8, 2006 05:22 PM: it's sadIt's weird how guarded we are about how we feel about each other. I used to be pretty good about telling people how important they were to me, or how wonderful they are, or how beautiful they are. But I stopped, and it seems like most everyone else has as well. I don't know what it is, are we afraid of looking weak or mushy? I have no idea. But it's sad that the friends who inspire me and make me want to be a better man, have no idea...
January 6, 2006 12:42 PM: always liked him more than LenoIt's nice to see Letterman hand it to O'Reilly. O’Reilly: “Our analysis is based on the best evidence we can get.” Letterman: “Yeah, but I think there’s something, this fair and balanced. I'm not sure that it's, I don't think that you represent an objective viewpoint.” O’Reilly: “Well, you’re going to have to give me an example if you're going to make those claims.” Letterman: “Well I don’t watch your show so that would be impossible.”...
