November 29, 2005 06:26 PM: finally

after weeks, WEEKS!, of saying I would clean my room. I finally did. if I were to guess, my carpet color would be "root beer" and I'd totally forgotten what it looked like. special thank you to the movie "lovely and amazing" for keeping me company in my 2 hour endeavour!...

November 27, 2005 06:34 PM: while the scene goes on, the story rolls along

There's a Justin McRoberts song that really caught hold of my emotions this past Spring when I was at the depths of my despair. It was one of those ordained coincidences, but I won't bore you with the inane details. Basically, the gist of the song, Movie Of My Life, is evident in the chorus: i'm just watching me, in my life i'm just watching my days go by can i stop the action for a while? find out who am i, supposed to be When I first heard the...

November 24, 2005 12:30 PM: it's hard to appreciate sometimes

I'll be the first to admit, I take Thanksgiving for granted. This week hasn't been even remotely close to good on a couple different fronts (mostly work related). I've been under more stress in the last months than in my entire life. Yet, in a strange way, I feel more fulfilled and content than I have in a long time. Normally, I don't notice when I'm on the verge of something. I usually just bumble through life and realize years later the opportunities i missed or lucked into. But this...

November 21, 2005 12:55 AM: almost perfect science

I've always ridden the fence about abortion. I've never thought it was a good idea, nor something that should ever happen. My personal problem with the idea of banning it outright is that I've never been sure that I (your avg person) should have the benefit of legislating a moral/ethical idea. I guess it just depends on how you look at it; when does life begin?, etc... This article in the NY Times (pdf) today did a pretty good job of pushing me squarely into the pro-life camp. Is murder...

November 20, 2005 01:27 PM: macon bacon

I saw Macon Greyson at the Blue Light last night. I'd seen these guys a few years back, but didn't remember just how awesome they are live. I've always liked their music, even listened to it from time to time. But you've just got to respect a band that's fun in concert, sounds the same as on their cd, and sells me a t-shirt for $5....

November 17, 2005 09:07 PM: same old song and dance

Remember when we went to war to protect ourselves from "weapons of mass destruction" and there weren't any. Then it was because Al Qaeda and Iraq were conspiring together. But they weren't. Then it was to free the people; but it turns out we're not very popular with them either. I thought the GOP would have their talking points down better than this. To rehash the idea that Iraq had even the slightest thing to do with the "war on terror" is just absurd. "It is clear that [House Minority...

November 17, 2005 12:47 AM: let's recap the day

chisum travel center narrowly avoided being shut down today when a federal judge ordered the assets of 5 lubbock companies frozen, in wake of the pending charges (any day now) against Jody Nelson, the main benefactor. luckily though, we'll be able to operate as normal until it's resolved. minutes after learning that i still had a job, i went outside and found that my car had been broken into for the second time in three months. last time, my car got broken into and the camry couldn't recover. this time,...

November 13, 2005 02:53 PM: switch hitters

I think it was Lee who told me the other day how he was surprised that he's swung more liberal lately in his political/social views. I've always thought that the more you know, the more liberal you become because it seems that conservatism thrives on ignorance (not in all cases, obviously). This week, both Cayce and Greta agreed with my statement about how sad it was to see Texas cram Proposition 2 into an already unwieldy document. The conservative base thrives on this sort of stuff, so to hear they...

November 12, 2005 07:07 PM: patterson-uti

Patterson-UTI Probes Possible Theft of Funds By LISA SANDERS and RUSSELL GOLD Staff Reporters of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL November 12, 2005; Page A5 Patterson-UTI Energy Co., an onshore oilfield drilling contractor, is investigating the possible embezzlement of $70 million by a former official. The company released few details about the investigation other than to say that the alleged scheme involved payments for assets that were never delivered and took place over more than five years. Patterson, based in Snyder, Texas, said it has informed the Securities and Exchange Commission...

November 9, 2005 12:26 AM: proposition two

I didn't even bother to get out and vote today. Personally, I found the whole lack of debate on Proposition 2 to be a little disheartening. Conservatives, enjoy the ride while it lasts. While in Waco, one of the elder's at my grandparents church got up to speak about the elders' position on gay marriage (Prop 2 was about whether Texas would recognize homosexual marriages). While he was speaking (although he didn't have any reason), I just sat there saddened by how hypocritical we are as the Church. We're the...

November 6, 2005 11:22 PM: good times this weekend

Here's one of those annoying posts where I recount my entire weekend... I was lucky enough to go to Waco this weekend to visit the grandparents and get some welcome time away from the job. My grandmother hadn't been doing very well as of late, so I was attempting to make an effort to spend as much time with her as I could. My grandparents have been very big in my life and some of my, seemingly, best memories and a constant source of encouragement. My grandfather taught me so...
