April 29, 2004 09:39 PM: Is it that Great?

There's an op-ed in the Lubbock paper today. It's standard fare for the AJ editorials. Nothing ground breaking or all that interesting, but it got me thinking. For the past week, many Americans have gushed at how proud they are of Pat Tillman, former safety for the Arizona Cardinals. Tillman left the NFL after 9/11 and join the Army Rangers in Afghanistan. Tillman was killed last week in an ambush in Afghanistan and since then, the whole country has been gushing their admiration for what he did. But I'm not...

April 27, 2004 01:12 PM: Big Fucking Liars

If you read Cheney's speech at Westminster College yesterday, you'd think "gosh, Kerry hates our troops and hates America." Luckily, there are people with enough sense to recognize that Cheney made some HUGE mis-statements (also known as lies). I was going to take the time to tear apart his speech, pointing out how he's lying, but luckily The O'Franken Factor already did. I'll just re-post that same body of text I got from The O'Franken Factor. BUSH/CHENEY: FAILING THE TROOPS Vice President Richard Cheney gave a brutal hatchet job of...

April 22, 2004 11:13 PM: same sex: why not?

It seems that very few bloggers have posted their feelings of same-sex marriage. I don't think I have the right to tell two people they are not old enough, or have the right, to make a decision for themselves. I also don't think our Government has the power to tell those two people that they can't choose either. From a societal or civil standpoint, there's nothing standing in the way of the union of two people in the eyes of the State. I don't see how the Constitution can...

April 20, 2004 11:40 PM: Wage Slave Journal

I found a great site that takes note of all the things that Bush has done to damage America, the Environment, the World, the Economy, the Poor, the Elderly, the Endangered Species, and countless others. This is one of those sites that does a good job of staying away from unsubstantiated claims, and documents everything. You can not disagree with most of this. Wage Slave Journal A few examples: Bush makes it easier for timber companies to plunder national forests. Bush reverses snowmobile ban in Yellowstone Park. Bush ignores judge's...

April 18, 2004 11:05 PM: XM Radio

I heard the slogan "XM Radio is here!" about a million times before I actually considered buying into the idea. Today I did. Early impressions are very favorable. Sound Quality and Ease of Use are both stand-out's for the little box sitting on my desk. Several factors led me to XM Radio: 1) Lack of non-Clear Channel radio stations in Lubbock. I hate Clear Channel with a passion (i hope XM isn't owned by CC!). 2) Lack of quality radion stations in Lubbock. If you live here you know...

April 17, 2004 06:27 PM: you, but not you

Matthew 26 says:During the meal, Jesus took and blessed the bread, broke it, and gave it to his disciples: Take, eat. This is my body. Taking the cup and thanking God, he gave it to them: Drink this, all of you. This is my blood, God's new covenant poured out for many people for the forgiveness of sins. I went to a Catholic wedding today. I know you're thinking, "oh gosh, more about the crazy catholics." No, today, I'll actually make sense. I'd never been to a Catholic wedding...

April 15, 2004 10:15 PM: handcuffed

Every so often, I get frustrated and angry at myself. I'm sure most everyone has these instances, but tonight I had a realization in the whole ordeal. There are things I don't like about myself. How I look, how I act, how I spend my time... To be honest, it's probably just about every part of my life that I know I could do better. But tonight I realized that the reason I don't do better at work, or don't get in shape, or don't do any number of things...

April 13, 2004 11:53 PM: Funny Quote #3

In honor of Adam Hoover's latest post, I submit to you: Best Thing Overheard At Open Jazz Night: "If you're going to wear the hooker outfit, you have to be the hooker."...

April 11, 2004 01:22 AM: stunning reminder

Amid the mass, orgranized chaos at work, I was taken aback by this photo. It's not often that a picture in a newspaper hanging over a urinal can do that to you. The caption read: "Nate Hughes, 7, Hoschton Ga., carries a wooden cross that he made with his father. For the third year in a row, Nate, who weighs 40 pounds, carried the 45-pound cross through his neighborhood on Good Friday morning. Nate said he started the ritual at age 5 because he wanted to remind people of...

April 8, 2004 11:14 PM: terrorist stickers

I may be on my own in this regard, but these stickers make me sad. I've always felt like maybe I wasn't on the same page with the rest of this city, state and country when it comes to the common reaction. When the Trade Center towers fell, I wasn't angry, I was deeply saddened. When I see this stickers, I wonder how other people feel. For many, the attacks only made them feel that more attacks were warranted. It just makes me sad to realize that people can...

April 7, 2004 09:00 PM: Funny Quote #2

Second in a series of Funny Quotes. (for Patrick) An escalator can never break. It can only become stairs. You would never see an "Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order" sign, just "Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience."...

April 6, 2004 05:13 PM: Funny Quote #1

First Funny Quote in a Series of Seven. When you go to a restaurant on the weekends and it's busy they start a waiting list. They start calling out names, they say "Dufrane, party of two. Dufrane, party of two." And if no one answers they'll say their name again. "Dufrane, party of two, Dufrane, party of two." But then if no one answers they'll just go right on to the next name. "Bush, party of three." Yeah, what happened to the Dufranes. No one seems to give a shit....

April 1, 2004 06:26 PM: things i like #7

Senator Daschle calling out the Administration. Seventh in a week-long series. The following is speech made by Tom Daschle on the floor of the Senate. 97% of my readers will not read this. I urge everyone to take a few minutes and read these truths. Your country depends on it. Floor Statement of Senator Daschle on the Abuse of Government Power Mr. President, last week I spoke about the White House's reaction to Richard Clarke's testimony before the 9-11 Commission. I am compelled to rise again today, because the people...
