February 25, 2004 06:03 PM: big old treeThe latest installment of Strong Bad's Email is very classic....
February 22, 2004 11:27 AM: more than she could chewSo last night I hop into the shower while Lainie is content on the floor by the door with a piggy sliver. A few minutes into my shower, I hear a few muffled little barks. I immediately know something is wrong because I've never heard Lainie bark any time when we're not rough-housing. So I jump out of the shower, grab my glasses and see my poor little pup in dire trouble. Apparently, she'd swallowed too big of a piece of rawhide or something else and couldn't breathe. She was...
February 20, 2004 08:00 PM: the life of fearLast week the Supreme Court let stand the Justice Department's right to secretly arrest noncitizen residents. Combined with the government's power to designate foreign prisoners of war as "enemy combatants" in order to ignore international treaties regulating their incarceration, and their power to indefinitely detain U.S. citizens without charge or access to an attorney, the United States is looking more and more like a police state. .... This can be a personal decision, and one greatly influenced by the situation. For most of us, bulletproof vests are not worth...
February 19, 2004 11:35 PM: Lost Post, Lost PowellWell today was Thursday and I had to work. For lunch I ate at Chick-fil-a. Gosh I love that place. Did anyone see how windy it was? I thought I was going to get blown across campus. I woke up late for the third Thursday in a row and my professor is starting to give me the evil eye. She's such a beast. Is everyone excited about The Passion? It's that new movie by Mel Gibson about the last days of Christ. I can't believe the Jews are all bent...
February 18, 2004 01:21 AM: could be the yearThe Yankees now have the best left side in baseball history, but your shortstop and third baseman don't win championships. Pitchers do. The AP reports that Greg Maddux will sign a 3-year deal with the Chicago Cubs. Maddux-Wood-Prior-Zambrano-Clement. That's a really great rotation and they've made solid additions to the bullpen. This could be the year for the Cubs. The Yankees lost too much in pitching to win. I remember watching Maddux as a kid when he was new to the league. It'll be great to see him back...
February 17, 2004 07:31 PM: Bush in 30 secondsThere was a great amateur contest called "Bush in 30 Seconds". It was sponsored by the moveon.org voter fund and had some great entries and winners. The winning ads were going to be played during the SuperBowl, but CBS wimped out and said they wouldn't show "issue ads" even though they ended up showing others. All in all, these are incredible political advertisements that everyone should see. Bush in 30 Seconds...
February 16, 2004 12:15 PM: Passing of TractsI may be on my own in this regard, but I hate tracts. They are those little booklets that have a neat little drawing on the front of hell and then proceed to tell you that you're going there. You're probably thinking, "gosh, how could you have a problem with a ministry tool?". Well, I don't have a problem with tracts, I have a problem with how they've become the ministry and not just the tool. Every Sunday, I have to ask people to stop handing them out at work....
February 15, 2004 05:48 PM: United Texas TourThe United Texas Tour is just proof that United Supermarkets is a great place to work. In 2005, many of the best pro cyclists will take a fundraising tour through all of the communities that United serves. The tour will be a fundraiser for cancer research and will travel more than 1,000 miles through 50 cities. Early info indicates that Lance Armstrong, the "man", will be in attendance along with many of the USA Cycling team. More info later....
February 12, 2004 11:47 AM: bethany dillonAs I research information for my next issue post, I'll give a quick shot for Bethany Dillon. Last week, I was ordering a couple of cd's; Jeremy Camp's new worship cd and Lori Chaffer's solo release. I saw this EP in the Bargain bin for $3.99 and thought what the heck. Never listened to any of the samples or read about the artist, I just saw Bethany Dillon "The Beautiful Sessions" and bought it. Fast forward to yesterday, wow, this girl is amazing. What's more amazing is that she's better...
February 8, 2004 05:57 PM: faces of war"Saddam Hussein was dangerous, and I'm not just going to leave him in power and trust a madman," he said. "He's a dangerous man. He had the ability to make weapons." ~ President Bush, February 8th, 2004 The faces you're seeing are those of soldiers who perished in January 2004, and July 2003. These are the faces that went to war because Saddam had nuclear weapons, wait, had biological, wait, had chemical, wait, nothing. I have no problem with war with it's justified, but there can't be any doubt....
February 4, 2004 09:07 PM: the facesOn February 3rd, 2004, George W. Bush said "I want all the facts" dealing with the administration's intelligence on Iraq's WMD. This statement and the subsequent lack of any weapons makes me really believe we all got punk'd. Did the Adminstration just use the fear of Americans to justify their lust for war? These 40 faces you see above are soldiers who died in Iraq in the months of July 2003, and January 2004. 40 mothers, fathers, sons, daughters who are no more. There are families without fathers and...
February 3, 2004 06:11 PM: true majorityBen Cohen, of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream fame, has started an organization called True Majority. One of their most recent works was the creation of a flash presentation detailing our government's lust for military and utter complacency about "real" issues. It's a great watch for anyone, no matter Democrat, Republican, or Person-Who-Won't-Vote. After watching the presentation, you'll see how ridiculously hell-bent our government is on building our false sense of security through homeland security. I for one, don't really think the Office of Homeland Security is really doing...
