December 29, 2003 07:06 PM: shallow miracles

Ryan Dagliesh, my old bible college teacher, used to always remind us in class that, as a society, we use words so much they lose their meaning. I remember, his best example was the use of good. Over the many years, the biblical meaning was lost and good has become a very trite adjective. Today, I read in the Lubbock newspaper (possibly the most behind-the-times piece of literature published in America today) about a New Mexico couple's lost pickup. Apparently, the man had jumped out of his truck to give...

December 24, 2003 09:18 AM: for James

My good friend James' dad died last night, he needs your prayers. James: Take heart in the words of the song you always speak of: stir my affections for you you're my only hope for you, yeshua, explain the way he moves just an ordinary man again you're the first, Jesus by your hand we move you're the image of the invisible god bring fascination...

December 23, 2003 11:14 PM: never: bjork

I never honestly believed I could ever get into Bjork's music, but after hearing the earnest reccomendation of a one Miss Elise Foreman, and then hearing some Bjork in Mr. Adam Hoover's vehicle, I'm changing my mind. Some of her music is so wonderfully emotional, that it's hard not to enjoy. I admit, some of her music is even too weird for me, but I'm really digging "All Is Full of Love" and "Joga"....

December 22, 2003 03:57 PM: but with monkeys

There's a great flash video of monkey's singing Johnny Cash's cover of Desperado over at The Big Smoker...

December 20, 2003 04:06 PM: better archiving

i've been working on a ton of stuff concerning the archives on the back-end of the site. it's a ton of work, but in a few days, all the archives will be available via categorical, date-based, and individual post archives. Archives are a pain, but when they are organized properly, they're very cool....

December 19, 2003 01:10 PM: consumer win

Finally, a win for the consumers. Today an appeals court ruled that the RIAA could not subpoena ISP's for customer information. This is great because it basically puts an end to the shock and awe campaign they'd used to scare people into buying cd's again. Article at NY Times....

December 12, 2003 01:50 AM: trial of the century

My partner contends that his email submissions of plagiarized material was simply an accident. His accounts of how he prepares for papers was just as troubling as what had happened with the bogus submissions. For every paper he writes, he'll google the internet for texts. When he reads something he likes, he'll copy and paste the text into a Word file and then take his ideas and write a paper from that text. Is that not a form of plagiarizm I asked him? He says no, our professor agrees that...

December 10, 2003 09:30 PM: guess who..

I just wanted to mention that in my effort to evangelize the world about how awesome Market Street United is, I offer to you this little story. So I'm at work this past Saturday. It was the first time in a very long time that I'd worked the 8-5 shift, so I was a bit delirious from the early morning. Around 3pm, I was standing there thinking about how lovely adam hoover looks in a skirt, when I noticed a gentleman standing in one of our register lines. I thoughht...

December 10, 2003 04:16 PM: update: a sham

So what do you do when confronted with overwhelming evidence of plagiarizm? Of course, you lie and blame the innocent party. Instead of taking the high road, my partner decided to get down and dirty and accuse me of conspiring it all. It's times like this that make me glad that I'm a freak when it comes to a challenge. Tommorow, we have a meeting with our professor (associate dean) and the dean of the Arts & Science college to discuss the allegations and make some decisions. I'm actually...

December 10, 2003 01:49 AM: update: bad choice

I hadn't looked around to see what the rest of America was saying. Well, it's not very nice. Melana is being trounced on and most people believe that her choice was solely based on looks. I wouldn't disagree. I find it funny that this was her response to a question on the NBC website: What type of guy are you usually attracted to? I am usually attracted to the guy who walks in and "lights up the room", not by his looks, but by his charm and the way he...

December 9, 2003 05:02 PM: she made a bad choice

Over the past month or two, I've been indulging in one of the latest reality-shows about finding Mr. Right. Of course, I'm talking of Average Joe and Melana's quest to sort through the flab to find the "diamond in the rough." I know I've spoken out against this type of show many times in the past. I still feel as though it's impossible to find someone and know what true love is when there's 40 cameras around you at any time. That fact has not changed for me, however, with...

December 8, 2003 03:00 AM: a sham

It's no good that at 3am, you notice that everything your partner has submitted to you for their portion of your essays is a total and absolute sham. In our Leadership through Communication class, we've had to write three Leadership Analysis Essays about Abraham Lincoln, our chosen leader. I knew it was no good when during the first three weeks, our group dwindled from 5 persons to 2 persons. I'm ok with doing most of the work, I actually prefer to be in control of the final product. But it...

December 5, 2003 11:47 PM: a happy tree

Is the tree smiling?...

December 1, 2003 09:17 PM: Kobe, Michael, & Americans

On my way into most classes, I'll grab a copy of the University Daily, our campus newspaper. It's not because it's a very credible piece of journalism, or that there's usually anything interesting in it, it's just so that i can stare at something and avoid making friends or conversation. Factor in the iPod on the bus and while walking, and the iPod plus newspaper and I'm pretty distant. Not the point though. Anyways, I was reading about two weeks ago and for the first time in a very long...
