May 31, 2003 05:18 PM: summer swap 2003I welcome you to the first annual somewherequiet swap ever had on this website. The idea, share your favorite music with the other readers of this website. Here's how it will go down: I burn a cd with my ten favorite songs and mail it to the other participants of this swap. In return for my participation, the other participants will mail their cd's to me. If 6 people participate, you send 5 cd's and you get 5 cd's in return (obviously if 6 people participate, you'll only get 5...

May 27, 2003 05:21 PM: art as leavenThe church is in desperate need to find new and more effective means by which it might reach our current culture. Most of American Christianity has lost contact with the world by limiting itself to the sub-culture of the Church. As a result Christianity has become marginalized and lost its influence on society. There is a pressing need for the Church to create new wine skins through which she might contextualize a relevant Gospel message. In our rethinking of evangelism, the arts are quietly re-emerging as a means of communicating...

May 20, 2003 03:23 PM: six lessonsThis is another way I teach the lesson of dependency. Good people wait for a teacher to tell them what to do. This is the most important lesson of all, that we must wait for other people, better trained than ourselves, to make the meanings of our lives. It is no exaggeration to say that our entire economy depends upon this lesson being learned. Think of what would fall apart if kids weren't trained in the dependency lesson: The social-service businesses could hardly survive, including the fast-growing counseling industry; commercial...
May 19, 2003 10:24 PM: damn bachelorIf i could think of a word more damning than hate, i would use it for the shows on ABC and others that cheapen love and marriage. Who actually watches this crap I ask? Well, it seems like everyone. My mom, friends, coworkers all buy into this filth and perpetuate it's existence. Ok.. So i've never even watched an episode, much less any other TV that is not on Tivo, but come on. It's got to be horrible right? I just feel so sorry for the contestants and the people...
May 17, 2003 07:25 PM: cha cha changesI think about change a lot. I mean changes in my life, work, and the people i know. I can't remember but like 10 people from high school. I see people everyday at work that went to Lubbock High, but I can't remember their names or why i knew them. In the past semester, I've done things that i swore to myself that i'd never do. Back in high school, Adam Hoover and I would sit around and trash talk anyone that was going on vacation overseas. We'd say that...
May 14, 2003 07:26 PM: mac convert"good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement" ~ Bill Gates I'm a complete Mac convert. I love this thing and it works like a charm. OSX is leagues above Windows and the included software is incredible. I love how all the main programs you use for media are built in. No third-party drivers to bring your system down. Viva iBook!...

May 4, 2003 11:30 PM: the undergroundFor the 5 days of our 7 days in London, the tube station nearest our hostel was broken. It seemed like the start of our trip was doomed. Missed connections, lost bags, and now closed tube stations. The Russel Square station was closed, so we had to use Holborn which probably added 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile onto each leg of our journey. When we came back from Paris, the Russel Square station was open again. It's weird though, even though it was closer and easier, I missed...
May 2, 2003 11:31 PM: rural prom fiascoGeorgia students planning whites-only prom dance A year after holding their first integrated prom, some students at Taylor County High School have decided to again hold a separate, private party for whites only. While many whites say they still plan to attend next week's integrated prom, the decision to hold the whites-only prom today saddened senior Gerica McCrary, who helped organize last year's dance. "I cried," said McCrary, who is black. "The black juniors said, 'Our prom is open to everyone. If you want to come, come."' Juniors are in...
