My grandfather, a colonel in the US Army during WWII, told me a great little story about General Patton. I'm not sure how he knew him; maybe from OCS or serving under him, but he knew alot about what Patton was like.
My grandfather told me of a time when Patton was in Europe and was speaking to some new recruits who had just arrived near the frontlines. Patton points off into the distant fighting and says to the men:
"You are not here to die for your country, you are here to make those SOB's over there die for theirs!!"
