Where is it written that the United States of America should be baby sitter for the whole world?
We saved Kuwait from Iraq during the Gulf War and now 75 percent of the people in Kuwait say we have no business in the Arab world. China proclaims that we are their worst enemy. The Arab countries have been fighting for generations.
I read an article where it said 90 percent of the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan are illiterate. They teach their children to be suicide bombers. We send billions of dollars to these countries and what do we get in return? Those people will never get along with each other.
I say we should bring our troops home and keep our taxpayers' money at home. Our politicians spend our money like it was their own. We have lost our surplus, stolen from the Social Security fund and are deeply in debt.
Politicians should realize that the money in Washington does not belong to them. It is taxpayers' money. I believe we should take care of our own first. We have a few very good people in Washington. A majority of them, if they worked in private enterprise, would be fired in a New York minute.
CHUCK SCHAEFER/Lubbock
Congratulations Chuck, you're an idiot. It's surprising to read opinions like Chuck's, because it shows a complete lack of understanding when it comes to humanity. Why did we go to Kuwait, Chuck? Not to save the Kuwaiti people, but to save their most valuable asset. Oil. Why did we go to Afghanistan, Chuck? No, not oil or $, but for the simple reason that 3,500 innocent Americans and foreign nationals were killed in New York. We went and stay to defend their honor. We fight the psychotic factions who beat women for being women, who don't educate their children, who steal food from the hungry. We fight them because we should. It's not 1950, and they aren't black, so let's end this American racism Chuck. Not all arabs are raised to strap TNT to their chest and run up next to a bus. Much like not all Americans are raised to be an idiot, just like you, Chuck. I agree Chuck, let's bring home the troops and let the world fall apart. But you know what? We'll be right back where we were 60 years ago, trying to stay out of foreign problems. We'll continue to stay out of problems until that problem hits home. By home I mean surprise bombing of a military base or a nuclear attack. Then where will be, Chuck? We'll be fighting a bigger war, with a bigger foe, so that we can lose more American lives than if we get involved early. The moral Chuck? You're an idiot.
